Occupying a low-lying outcrop in the Aravalli hills, Samode is a large Rajasthani town full of cobbled streets and friendly villagers, mainly farmers and craftspeople. In the sixteenth century, prosperity in the township led to the construction of a grand and glorious Rajput fort, which was converted into an exquisite palace in the 19th century.
The town’s magnificent landscaped garden, Samode Bagh, was inspired by the Mughal gardens of the time. Spread over 20 acres, the gardens are used as a private retreat by the royal family. Jaipur is just an hour away.
A trip to Samode is a lesser-known highlight on the Rajasthan tourist trail.
