Rajasthan Tour From Delhi 12-Day

Our Rajasthan tour from Delhi with the Taj Mahal takes in all the must-see sites of India’s Golden Triangle and beyond,  such as Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur. You’ll also experience a change of pace and a glimpse at an older, more rural Rajasthan with its impossibly romantic desert forts and dramatic scenery.

Highlights

  • Marveling at the timeless magnificence of the Taj Mahal, the disorderliness of Delhi and colorful Jaipur.
  • Escaping to the gorgeous surrounds of Fort Barli.
  • Learning about the Bishnoi people in Rohet.
  • Staying on the banks of Lake Pichola in romantic and laid back Udaipur

DAY 1 Arrive Delhi

Upon arrival at Delhi International airport, you'll be met and escorted to your hotel.

DAY 2 Old & New Delhi

Your comprehensive privately guided sightseeing tour explores the best of Old and New Delhi. Visit Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India. Explore the bustling Chandni Chowk market. Enjoy a traditional pedicab ride in Old Delhi. Drive past the imposing India Gate- built in memory of Indian soldiers killed during the First World War, and Parliament House and on to visit Humayun’s Tomb - the last resting place of an esteemed 16th-century Mughal emperor and an architectural precursor of the Taj Mahal. At the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Qutab Minar, you’ll discover the tallest brick minaret in the world, a graceful fluted tower built in the 14th century.

DAY 3 Delhi to Agra

After breakfast, your chauffeur will arrive to drive you down the excellent new highway to Agra. After lunch and checking in at your hotel you will be able to visit the Taj Mahal, the premier iconic site in the whole of India and deservedly so.

DAY 4 Agra TO Jaipur

This morning you’ll be driven to Jaipur, via a stop at the incredible ruined city of Fatehpur Sikri. This fair tale city in the desert is still in pristine condition, despite being completely abandoned 100’s of years ago. On from there to Jaipur, the ‘Pink City’ and the third point of the famous Indian ‘Golden Triangle’ of tourist sites. Check into your hotel and there is time to relax or explore if you are keen.

DAY 5 Jaipur Full Day Guided Tour

The spectacular Amber Fort was founded in the 11th century. It’s beautifully constructed from yellow and pink sandstone and gleaming white marble. Entering through the Sun Gate, your privately guided tour reveals lavish courtyards, decorated halls and the dazzling Chamber of Mirrors. It's worth taking 20 minutes out of your itinerary and checks out Panna Meena stepwell, right next to the Amber Fort. According to the local residents, it’s impossible for a person to use the same stairs to get down and go back up. We’ll then pull over at Water Palace which sits in the middle of the lake! The ancient palace that was previously used for duck-hunting is currently off-limits to the public, but it definitely makes for a postcard-perfect photo.

Back in the city, you’ll see Hawa Mahal. Also known as the Palace of Winds, its delicately latticed windows allowed women of royal families to remain concealed as they observed the hustle and bustle of the street below. Then tour the City Palace Museum to see its carefully curated collection of miniature paintings, ancient weapons, and royal Rajasthani costumes. At Jantar Mantar, you’ll marvel at a collection of large stone instruments that were made in 1726 to measure time, predict eclipses, and track the movements of the stars and planets. Take a walk through the old pink city and experience tuk-tuk ride, taste traditional sweets and most famed delicious Lassi.

DAY 6 Jaipur TO Fort Barli

A 3.5-hour drive this morning takes you deep into the Rajasthani countryside and towards Fort Barli. The rural location should be a very welcome respite from the hectic bustle of Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. The historic fort itself is now a hotel and will be your base here.

DAY 7 Fort Barli

Your stay at Fort Barli will be like a home from home and you will be well looked after. Use it as a place to relax or take part in some of the hotel experiences on offer. For example, trekking in the hills, walking around the local lake, interacting with the villagers, cycling around the countryside or visiting local ancient temples.

DAY 8 Fort Barli TO Rohet

You'll travel today towards Jodhpur and your base (40 miles outside) in a sleepy place called Rohet. It’s a popular stopover and several famous writers are reputed to have found Rohet a great place to let their creative juices flow. It’s also the home of the Bishnoi people and the beautiful Blackbuck antelope.

It is not a safari park as such and the wildlife is protected by the Bishnoi themselves and can be viewed on a jeep safari locally.

DAY 9 Jodhpur & Rohet

Today you will have a privately guided tour of Jodhpur (about 45 minutes' drive from Rohet), the second largest city in Rajasthan and nicknamed the "Blue City” after the many houses in the old city that are painted in various hues of blue. This incredible site is best seen from the imposing Mehrangarh Fort, the largest fort in Rajasthan, which looms over 100m above the city. There is time to stroll through the winding alleyways of the Old City and visit the numerous palaces, temples, and havelis that are scattered throughout.

Back to Rohet for a relaxing in blissful peace.

DAY 10 Rohet TO Udaipur

A 4-hour journey takes you to the most romantic of cities in a state full of them: Udaipur, set on Lake Pichola. You’ll start your stay here with a boat trip to Jang Mandir Island Resort- a perfect sundowner spot.

DAY 11 Udaipur City Tour

A full day exploring the sights and sounds of Udaipur, including the City Palace complex and the markets and bazaars of the old city.

DAY 12 Udaipur / Departure

You'll wave goodbye to your chauffeur today and transfer at the Udaipur airport for your flight to onward destination.
