In rural Rajasthan, the rambling Bhainsrorgarh looks down from a high clifftop that juts out over the River Chambal. This impressive eighteenth century fort is just beautiful, and staying here is a bit like going back in time. The fort is somewhat isolated, but very rewarding, with great opportunities for boating safaris along the river and beautiful surroundings. Bundi and Kota are in close proximity, and there are beautiful temples to be explored at Bijolia and Menal. Photographers and artists are said to be particularly inspired by the beautiful landscaped gardens at the fort.
Bhainsrorgarh is certainly charming, but it’s not a luxury experience. The rooms are spread over several floors, which mean anyone with mobility problems may have difficulty getting around. It’s a family-run affair, and the owners are usually around for a friendly chat over a simple, locally-sourced and home-cooked Rajasthani meal. You’ll find that everything here as eco-friendly and ecologically responsible as possible.
There are five rooms available, all with balconies and great river and hill views. All are furnished tastefully with antique pieces and feature air conditioning and an en suite bathroom. Bhainsrorgarh is a pleasantly isolated and very charming experience in country Rajasthan, perfect for relaxing, hiking, and exploring the region.
